Welcome to the Maui Photographic Expedition Moments in Time workshop with photography/video instructor Eric Salas from Eric Salas Workshops, and world-class adventure guide Shane Turnbull from Chinook Expeditions. Please contact Chinook Expeditions to secure your spot and to answer any questions for the resort and contact instructors listed below for your workshop fee.


All inclusive resort fees:

$1800.00 per person double occupancy

$2400.00 per person single occupancy



Workshop fees:

$650.00 Photography workshop with Eric Salas



Included:

All transportation on the island including airport pickup and drop off.

All scheduled accommodations while on this itinerary.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Please provide food allergies and restrictions when you contact Chinook Expeditions.

Fins, mask, snorkels.



Not included:

Alcohol is not included but we can make it available at your expense.

Spending money for souvenirs, cash recommended for local huts/vendors credit card for in-town merchants.

All airfare.

Any and all meals while shopping in town.



Flight information:

Arrive on Friday, have your flight arrive by 4:00pm at Kahului, OGG airport code.

Window seats on left side of the plane, you can see island on landing.

Depart on the following Friday from Kahului, OGG airport code.



Accommodations:

Glamping, wooden foundation platforms, all-weather standup tents, 1 or 2 beds per tent, end table with light, rug, an option of sheets and blankets with choice of 1 or 2 pillows.

Two community showers, and two bathrooms onsite.

Community area for dining and workshop meetings.

Fire pit for evening music and fun gatherings.

Aloha Cottages in Hana for two nights.

Camp Pono is an extremely rustic setting, allowing artists to see, hear, and feel Nature, as they create art from the ground up.

What to pack:

Upon landing, a trip can be scheduled to Wal-Mart for toiletries, alcoholic beverages, or anything you may have forgotten.

Sun protection style clothing and sunscreen including: long-sleeve lightweight shirts, short-sleeve shirts/tops, shorts, skirts, lightweight hiking pants, walking shoes rugged for uneven ground & hiking, tennis shoes, short warm-weather socks, flip-flops, sun hat, sunglasses, light windbreaker, waterproof.

Small lightweight backpack, we recommend all weather/waterproof

light thermal top and bottoms, possible 32 degrees at one location.

Warm socks, long pants, gloves, and hand warmers, headlamp & batteries, reef walking water shoes as an option.

There are plenty of places to get anything you may have forgotten but remember they will be at island prices.



Camera Equipment: (Recommended list, not required)

SLR body

Wide-angle lenses around 16 to 24ish.

Telephoto lens 28-300 or 70-210ish.

2X teleconverter.

Intervalometer or wired shutter release.

Lightweight sturdy tripod and head.

GoPro-style camera at least waterproof to 10 meters or waterproof housing.

Extra batteries for all cameras.

Any accessories you want to learn about.


Itinerary:


Friday Jan 10th- Flight arrives to Maui

Please try to have your flight arrive by 4:00pm (OGG airport code)

Trip to Wal-mart if needed; toiletries, snacks, alcoholic beverages.

The scenic trip to Camp Pono.

Greeting & Resort Orientation at Camp Pono with Resort Host, Lori Turnbull.


Saturday Jan 11th

8:00 AM-9:00 AM welcome breakfast at Camp Pono.

10:00 AM-12:00 PM class orientation with instructors

Photo workshop: bring a pen, notebook, and camera equipment.

Music workshop: bring a pen, notebook acoustic guitar and or ukulele.

1:00 PM depart Camp Pono, blowholes, pools, north shore, red cliffs, rugged landscapes, waves crashing, picnic, surfer shots, and lunch on the beach.


Sunday Jan 12th Trip to Hana

6:00 AM-7:00 AM breakfast at Camp Pono.

7:30 AM depart Camp Pono.

Drive to Hana, approximately 3 hours. Along the way: stop at Whole Foods, film surfers, turtles, windsurfers at Ho’okipa beach. Honomanu bay, lunch at mile marker 29 at roadside vendors (local shrimp, BBQ, tacos, banana bread). Arrive at Hana, spend two nights there. Visit local town, art gallery, explore beaches.


Monday Jan 13th Hana

8:30 AM-9:30 AM breakfast at Camp Hana.

5:30 AM depart Camp Hana.

Hike into Waianapanapa for morning sunrise shots

10:00 AM Black Sand Beach, blow holes, lava tube, hiking trails.

1:00 PM-2:00 PM lunch.

Evening exploration; bamboo jungle areas.


Tuesday May Jan 14th Hana

8:30 AM-9:00 AM breakfast at Camp Hana.

5:30 AM depart Camp Hana.

Hike into Red Sand Beach for spectacular sunrise shots.

11:45 AM depart Hana, explore backside back to Camp Pono.


Wednesday Jan 15th whale watching expedition

5:30 AM-6:00 AM breakfast at Camp Pono.

6:30 AM depart Camp Pono.

Arrive at Lahaina depart on Blue Water Maui Adventures boat.

Film whales, sea turtles, snorkeling on nearby islands, lunch on Lanai. Explore the town of Lahaina and dinner in Lahaina.

Back to Camp Pono.


Thursday Jan 16th Trip to Haleakala

8:00 AM-9:00 AM breakfast at Camp Pono.

3:00 PM depart Camp Pono.

Sunset and moonrise shots at 10,000 feet on Haleakala.

Return to Camp Pono.


Friday Jan 17 Open Day

Group decides on new locations or rediscover a past location


Saturday Jan 18th Airport Departures

8:00 AM-9:00 AM breakfast at Camp Pono.

11:30 AM depart Camp Pono.

Depart for OGG Airport.
